Origins Of The Battle Of Jollof

The Battle of Jollof was founded in 2020 by Arinze Emeagwali (brand marketer), TJ Adeshola (media executive), and Abdul Abdullah (founder of Afrofuture and ambassador of tourism in Ghana). Their vision was to create a competition that celebrates the diversity and unity of the African diaspora through food and sports. What began as a friendly contest has grown into a vibrant cultural movement, now drawing global attention.

Arinze Emeagwali

“What started as a friendly rivalry has become a blueprint. Battle of Jollof is proof that food, sport, and pride can build bridges. It’s our story, rooted in West Africa, but it speaks to any culture that knows the power of a plate and a game. This isn’t just an event it’s a movement with global rhythm.”

TJ Adeshola

“From rice to rim, rhythm to rivalry, we created a stage where flavor meets fire. Battle of Jollof is a love letter to who we are but it echoes beyond borders. Because whether it’s stew or sauce, court or campo, every culture knows what it means to play, to serve, and to celebrate together.”

Abdul Abdullah

“This is more than Ghana vs. Naija it’s culture in competition. From the heat of the kitchen to the heat of the court, Battle of Jollof is where energy meets identity. And the wild part? Every culture’s got their own version of this. We just turned ours into a global flex.”
